Chandigarh: A program was organized on the occasion of death anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar at Haryana State Headquarters here today. During the event, Congress leaders and workers paid homage to Baba Saheb Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar and remembered the great works done by him in the interest of the country.
Speaking on the occasion, Kumari Selja said that Baba Saheb had spent his whole life in struggle. The struggle for the rights of people belonging to Scheduled Castes, poor, exploited, deprived, farmers, laborers and women, which inspires the whole world. He gave equal rights to the people of the country through the Constitution of India. In the modern world, the constitution is a book, through which the system of the country operates. Baba Saheb was chosen for drafting the Constitution of our modern India. He was appointed the chairman of the drafting committee of the constitution. At that time the Constituent Assembly consisted of many great people. With the work of these great men, people got many rights in the Constitution. People got social equality in the constitution, but today whatever is happening, is totally opposite of what these great men gave us.
Kumari Selja said that today farmers and laborers are forced to take to the streets. Their rights are being attacked. The entire country witnessed how the farmers, who were protesting peacefully, were oppressed. She said that today farmers and laborers are fighting for their rights. Today, the whole country stands with farmers and laborers. All people are supporting the farmers and labourers in their struggle. In democracy, everyone has the right to speak, but today, this government is adamant and does not want to listen to the people. It is the responsibility of the government to listen to its people and understand their pain. But today people are scared to share their thoughts, she added.
She demanded from the government that it should accept the demands of the farmers and laborers, and immediately withdraw these black laws. She said that the cases filed against farmers should be withdrawn. The Congress party is standing firmly with the farmers in their struggle, added Kumari Selja.
