Mayor visits legacy waste bio-mining project at Dudumajra dumpsite; takes stoke of progress work

Chandigarh: Sh. Anup Gupta, Mayor, Chandigarh today visited the project of legacy waste bio-mining and land recovery at Dadumajra dumpsite, to take stock of progress of work at the site. He was accompanied by Chief Engineers and other concerned engineers of the project.
He asked the engineers to speed up the work so that it may be completed by the stipulated time frame. He also asked the concerned engineers for alternate arrangements of processing of the legacy waste dumped therein during the raining season and directed them to complete the arrangements by coming summers.
The Mayor said that the work of bio-mining measuring 8 acres of land fill site having 13.30 lacs cum of legacy waste dumped therein has been started on 24th November, 2022 with a time period to be completed within 43 months from the date of start by M/s Akanksha Enterprises, a Karnal-based firm at project cost of Rs. 67.95 crores. The engineers informed the Mayor that approximate 1.20 lacs cum legacy waste has been processed till today and they were trying their level best to complete the work by the end of this year.
The Mayor further said that the project will give a big relief to the residents from the foul smell and leachate oozing out of the garbage dump, which is been a major cause of the spread of various diseases, flies and dust nuisance. He said that the task of Swachh Bharat Mission could not be achieved until the Municipal Corporation go for the scientific way of disposal for Municipal Solid Waste.
The Mayor and the team of engineers also take stock of work at new sanitary landfill area, which has been developed for scientific disposal of Municipal Solid Waste.
