PGIMER's Advanced Eye Centre organises series of events to mark Workd Glaucoma Week

On the occasion of ‘World Glaucoma Week’ The Advanced Eye Centre , PGI conducted a series event today under the leadership of Prof Surinder Singh Pandav, the Chief of department and events were a huge success. The program started with an awareness walk begun from Rock Garden Chandigarh at 7:30 am with the slogan of “The world is bright, save your sight”. Glaucoma walk was flagged off by Prof. Vivek Lal, the director PGI, in the presence of Mrs. Gulati former Cheif Secy. Haryana, Mr. Kumar Gaurav- the Deputy Director PGI, Mr Kumar Abhay-The financial Advisor PGI, Prof MR Dogra former B head of the Advanced Eye Center and many other dignitaries from different walks of life. We have participation of large number of health workers from various sections form the PGIMER, GMCH-32 and people from various organizations.
About 200 people participated in the event.
Following conclusion of Glaucoma walk at Sukhna Lake Chandigarh by 8:00 am, artist from Chandigarh Arts Group, led by Mr Rajiv Mehta , staged a street play to highlight the problems faced by Glaucoma patients and emphasised on early diagnosis and proper treatment of the condition. The skit was really an eye opener for public gathered at Sukhna Lake and also conveyed the importance of glaucoma screening and treatment.
Following the skit, there was a painting competition for school children on the theme of Glaucoma blindness. About 30 children from different schools participated in the event.
